Quarterly Estimated Tax in Alaska
Alaska has no state income tax, so you only need to pay federal quarterly estimated tax (Form 1040-ES). Self-employed and gig workers in Alaska still owe federal income tax and self-employment tax (Social Security + Medicare) on net profit.
Who Must Pay Quarterly Estimated Taxes?
You generally must pay quarterly estimated taxes if you expect to owe $1,000 or more after withholding and credits. In Alaska, this applies to self-employed individuals, gig workers, partners, S-corp shareholders, and those with significant investment or rental income. Use the safe harbor rule (100% or 110% of prior-year tax in four equal payments) to avoid underpayment penalties.
